The Slayer Scythe, sometimes called "the Scythe" or "m?" ("?" being the symbol for a glottal stop ), is a powerful artifact created by the Guardians of the Scythe during the Primordium Age. The weapon itself is not, strictly speaking, a scythe -- one end of the weapon is an axe -- the edge of which is made of silver, while the end of the handle is carved into a wooden stake. The entire weapon, including the wooden end, is nearly unbreakable.

The power of the weapon is said to rival that of the Witchblade or of Excalibur.

Origin[edit | edit source]

The Guardians first crafted the weapon, and then imbued it with the demonic essence that the Shadow Men had used to power the Slayer Line, in order to make the Slayer even more formidable in the fight against evil. Sineya was given the Scythe, and used it to kill the last of the Old Ones in the area that would some day come to be known as Sunnydale.

After Sineya's death, the Guardians retrieved the Scythe and hid it away until another Slayer might have need of it.

Properties[edit | edit source]

Wielding the Scythe will enhance the powers of the Slayer. The Slayer will be drawn to the Scythe when near it, and will feel a profound sense of ownership when holding the weapon.

The power within the Scythe can also be used to empower spells far beyond the caster's ability -- even if the caster is not a Slayer.
